Cosmelan De-Pigmentation Experience

Cosmelan De-Pigmentation Peel

I always try any new product or service I offer in the Salon on myself before I consider offering it, so I’m always my own guinea pig!

This is a little first hand information on my personal experience with the cosmelan de-pigmentation peel. I have taken quite good care of my face over the past 10 years so it’s not too bad pigmentation wise. I have a bit on my jawline, which I believe is from driving (it’s where the sun hits me in the car) So I’m not expecting a huge change there, my chest however is a different story. I always wore strappy tops, no sunscreen ever, no skincare used on chest and I always used to spray my perfume there. (The alcohol in perfumes causes your skin to be more sensitive and reactive to the sun, which means if you aren’t wearing any sunscreen – over time you’re going to start developing brown blotches where you spray your perfume) So my décolletage definitely needs something with a lot of power to get rid of this damage!

What is Cosmelan?

Cosmelan is the world’s safest and most effective treatment for a more even skin tone. This unique, multi-ingredient chemical treatment is designed to reduce areas of skin discolouration and hyperpigmentation. It works by decreasing the skin’s melanin production by inhibiting the release of tyrosinase enzyme.

Cosmelan is compatible with all skin types. This non-invasive, easy and effective procedure can erase blemishes caused by sun-damage (freckles), ageing, acne scarring and hormonal pigmentation (melasma). In addition, the treatment balances the skin’s oil production to improve acne. The Cosmelan Depigmentation Peel is a unique, multi-ingredient chemical treatment designed to reduce areas of skin discolouration and hyperpigmentation. It can improve the appearance of freckles, pregnancy melasma, hyperpigmentation, chloasma from UV damage, birthmarks and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation from acne or scars. There’s no harsh hydroquinone and is suitable for all skin types and ages.

Day of peel: Easter Sunday! I applied the peel to my face and décolletage. It feels cool and smells nice and fresh like sunscreen. I left the peel on for 10 hours.

Day 1: 10 hours later, I removed the mask with warm water. My skin is mildly red like I’ve been sunburnt and feels warm. Towards the afternoon it looks slightly puffy around my eyes and feels quite warm now. Feels a little tender on the sides of my neck, the same as if I got sunburnt.

Day 2: My Skin feels very dry and tight but the warmth has gone.

Day 3: Still quite red, skin feels extremely dry and scaly, and really tight. My skin cracks around my mouth and chin when I smile and bits of skin are starting to peel around my forehead, nose and chin. Today is the day I have to start using the cosmelan maintenance cream. My skin is a bit tender so I mixed the cosmelan 2 cream with the repair and the hydra vital k cream and applied it, it did sting quite a bit for about 15 seconds.

Day 4: The redness on my face is settling. My face, chest and neck have started to peel a lot, like big sheets of skin and I know I’m not supposed to pick it but I could not help myself, it was too fun to resist! It didn’t sting applying the maintenance cream apart from a little on my forehead. My face complexion looks nice and even under the peeling skin.

Day 5: Peeling on my face seems to be mostly done this morning, but by afternoon it’s peeling again around my mouth area. My skin feels dry and scaly still, chest still peeling heavily. My chest skin is quite red and tender but doesn’t sting when applying the aftercare cream.

Day 6: Face is all flaky again this morning but it mostly all rubbed away when I washed my face in the shower. Applied makeup today to go into work. It looked perfectly fine up until about 4pm when I saw I had some flaky dry areas around my mouth and forehead. My chest is still peeling, red and tender (but I must say this is mostly my own fault for pulling of the big sheets of skin, leaving it feeling a bit raw)

Day 7: My skin tone is looking fantastic on my face! I don’t even want to wear makeup to work today, its super glowy and fresh. I’ve been applying my skincare and sunscreen religiously and am so happy with how my skin looks. My chest is a bit less red today and peeling has settled.

Day 8: Peeling seems to have mostly finished on my face. Theres only a little bit of flakiness thats shows up by the afternoon lately. My chest is settling too now, not tender anymore and the complexion is starting to look clearer.

Day 9: Again a little peeling starting around my mouth and chin by about 4pm. Chest peeling has mostly settled now, I can feel skin rubbing off when I use the cleanser in the shower and my chest stings a little when I apply the aftercare cream but only for a few seconds.

Day 10: I did the enzyme peel and hydrating mask on myself this afternoon, (clients will come in to see me at the salon for this)  My face looks and feels great, so smooth and clear. My chest is still blotchy red, almost like lots of broken capillaries all over but no brown spots of pigmentation anywhere in sight.

Days 11 – 30: My face continued to look smooth and clear. The peeling was very minimal just a tiny bit here and there throughout week 2 and 3 (mostly just late at night, a little dryness would appear around my chin and my forehead) only really noticeable to me, looking up close. My Chest seemed like it wasn’t ever going to clear up with the redness, but I was religious with applying my skincare and then suddenly I just noticed one morning all the redness had started to fade and then the complexion just got better and better each day from then on.

Day 48: I finally got around to taking an after photo! I am so glad I did the peel. At first you think, is this ever going to clear up and get better again, but trust me it’s worth those few days of yucky dry, tender feeling skin! SO WORTH IT. My chest is looking fantastic, and it will continue to improve with further use of the maintenance cream as well as being sun-safe. You can continue using the maintenance cream for up to 12 months after the peel, so any pigmentation thats still present will go away.

*My arms look like my chest did in the before photo and I wonder if I could do this peel on my arms……………
